Term 3: Agricultural and Pastoral Day

In week 10 of term 3, Ahipara School had an Agricultural & Pastoral Day. We were not able to have any pets or whanau at school on the day but we still got to make and enter lots of exhibits for judging and we had a photo/video pet competition.

Here are the exhibits the students in Room One created and entered in the competition.

Drawing Tutorial - Sloths

  This week we read a book about a sleepy sloth. We learnt lots of interesting facts about sloths and we learnt how to draw a cartoon sloth.

Lily has been busy working on her online learning today. Ka pai to mahi Lily.

Our Birdfeeders

We have been learning about birds. We discovered that birds can get hungry in the winter and we wondered why.
Here are some of our thoughts:

Our Question: 

What can we do to help the hungry birds?

Our ideas

We talked about our ideas and decided we needed to create a way to feed the birds in the trees to protect them from predators. 

We decided to create bird feeders.

Next, we looked at lots of different Youtube clips about birdfeeders and wrote down the things that were the same about the birdfeeders.

We decided that our birdfeeders needed to:

• be able to hang 

• be weatherproof

• have a dry place to put the food

• have somewhere for the birds to stand

• be made out of recyclable materials

We created some initial birdfeeder designs and then we collected some recyclable containers and created a final design.

Water Safety

This week we have been learning how to stay safe in and around the water. We learnt how to identify a rip at the beach and what to do if we were caught in one. We learnt how important it is to swim between the flags and to make sure we don't go into, or near, the water unless a parent or other adult is supervising us.
